Centene and Delaware First Health Support Henrietta Johnson Medical Center Community Refrigerator
Date: 02/01/23
Newark, DE (February 1, 2023) – On behalf of Centene Corporation, Delaware First Health supported Henrietta Johnson Medical Center’s community refrigerator project by presenting a check for $3,000. Through this sponsorship, Henrietta Johnson can stock the fridge for up to 15 weeks, helping residents of the Southbridge community with 24/7 access to fresh, healthy food. The community refrigerator, located in Wilmington’s Southbridge neighborhood, is an innovative response to food insecurity. For a community known for its resilience, the community refrigerator has now become an added resource for the area.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020, the public health emergency caused high unemployment, a change in availability of social services, and increased hunger for many. Henrietta Johnson Medical Center acted quickly by launching the refrigerator to meet the needs of the community. By supporting this refrigerator, Centene and Delaware First Health are partnering with Henrietta Johnson to reach individuals in need of resources that can transform their health. By working together, we can address the diverse social and health needs of Delaware and improve the health of the community, one person at a time.
“For so many, accessing even basic healthcare services can be an insurmountable challenge, which leads to poorer health outcomes and higher costs for the whole system”, said Plan President and CEO of Delaware First Health. “As a Managed Care Organization in Delaware, partnering with the state and local providers and partners, we combine strengths that will aid in reducing costs and transforming the health of the community, one person at a time.”
The check was presented by Jason Briglia, Delaware First Heath’s Chief Operating Officer. With support from our national partner, Centene Corporation, Delaware First Health also provides fully integrated, high-quality, and cost-effective services to government-sponsored and commercial healthcare programs, focusing on under-insured and uninsured individuals to improve the health of individuals in the area.
In addition to financial contributions, Delaware First Health will continue to be committed to local support and community engagements including care coordination, health equity, behavioral health, and outreach in the community.
